There are no good answers to these questions! If by authentic or traditional, one means what would have been done or served in ancient times, we have to first change the name. The Hawaiian word l'au means young taro tops, and also a dish made with the leaves, cooked with coconut milk and chicken, octopus or squid. This dish was served at celebrations, so it's likely that a visitor, sometime in the 1850s, confused the word for what they were eating with the whole party, and the word stuck. Taro Patch A rose by any name would smell as sweet , and so too is a get together with friends and family, which is the most important thing to remember. Freely sharing what we have and the feeling of community cannot really be bought and sold. Entertainment can be purchased. Food and beverages can be purchased. Friendship and the feeling of belonging and contributing has no retail value! Now that you know that no commercial luau can be either "authentic" or "traditional", we can move on to enjoying the food, the music and dancing, and being with other people. All commercial luau offer this! And this can be incorporated into your backyard barbeque, family picnic, birthday parties or any celebration no matter where you live. If you're looking for a good commercial luau, we recommend that you visit Hawaii Activities and select from the many attractions and activities they make available to order online. If you're planning your own luau-themed party, you'll find more information on these pages: Imu Cooking | Luau Party Ideas | Luau Recipes Home | About Us | Privacy Policy | Sponsors | Ask Aunty Kat! Maui WindsurfingMaui's windsurfing shops Maui's Windsurfing Shops Candy.. .It's all sweet, but it's a question of flavor. There is no place on earth with the selection and service as the windsurfing shops of Maui. Highly competitive, and eager to help you have fun, Maui's shops are stocked with the latest and greatest rental fleets and merchandise. Half the fun of preparing for a trip to Maui is investigating the shops. I encourage you to ask your friends about their experiences with particular shops and keep in mind that other shops you may have not heard about could be pleasant surprises. None of the shops listed here are lacking in any way. It may be no more than, " you like the guys at the counter " that makes one shop more attractive to you than another If yer asking me what I think personally? I like them all. I stand on my personal reputation when I say that the people of Maui' s windsurfing retail are all the kind of guys (and gals) you'd love to sail and party with. The shops are listed in the order that they submitted their responses to me. HI: Maui's most complete rental center. We offer every level of rental gear. From learning waterstarts to high performance slalom and wave boards. We also have a great selection of high performance surfboards to rent. From 10' longboards to 6' shortboards. Rental Equipment Prices... 7 day board/rig and two sails (exchangeable at any time) I have decided that publishing the prices may begin a cheesy price war and get me in trouble on this small island. I will tell you that the prices vary from $240-$280 . Prices also fluctuate according to time of year. (It's more in the summer when the shops are rockin and less in the very sailable winter months) Although it is not published anywhere...Many shops have an attitude discount. Smiles count for a lot on Maui.I urge you to consider minor price differences as insignificant relative to service and equipment offered. Check out all the shops for the best value before you decide.. The smart thing is to call around well in advance. Particularly in the summer season. OK, bitch at me. Price for 30 days rental? Again, the shops vary only slightly from one another. the range is $540-$570 What is your policy on damage to rental gear? HI: We offer insurance to clients for damaged equipment. HT: Customer pays for damage unless a manufacturers defect SBM: $3 a day insurance. $20 deductible. Covers damage, not theft. WR: Customer pays for replacement or can have insurance for $5 a day . CB: Equipment responsibility &security deposit, from agreement MWC: Insurance available through travel package SW: Customer is responsible for any damage to gear. All gear we rent is damage free before it leaves the store. What is your policy on counting days sailed? HI: We offer the fairest policy. If you sail, you pay. HT: Customer only pays for the days he (she) sails but customer must turn in equipment on "off" days. SBM: On no wind days, we offer the customer an instant credit to be used for future rentals. In unusual circumstances, we will refund. WR: If equipment is out it is counted as a day sailed CB: No wind day, no charge MWC: We only charge for days actually used. SW: Customers only pay for the days they sail. A "Lay Day" is given when the gear is returned to the shop. So, customers only pays for the days they choose to sail. The park encompasses diverse environments that range from sea level to the summit of the earth's most massive volcano, Mauna Loa at 13,677 feet. Kilauea, the world's most active volcano, offers scientists insights on the birth of the Hawaiian Islands and visitors views of dramatic volcanic landscapes. Over half of the park is designated wilderness and provides unusual hiking and camping opportunities. In recognition of its outstanding natural values, Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park has been honored as an International Biosphere Reserve and a World Heritage Site. The park extends for 377 miles from the 13,777-foot summit of Mauna Loa down to the Pacific, where Kilaluea, the youngest of the volcanic mountains, has since 1983 been pushing into the ocean from a vent, creating new land. Compared to more active volcanoes around the Pacific Rim and in other areas, Hawaii's volcanoes are fairly benign, so you can pass eruptions and lava flows in relative safety. No matter where you look, you'll see volcano views from a range of perspectives. Much of the park is preserved as wilderness, but it does provide 150 miles of trails, two visitor centers, and two scenic drives with a wealth of volcano views An 11-mile drive, called Crater Rim, passes by many rising steam vents. The Chain of Craters Road, a 46-mile round trip journey, goes by historic pit craters and heads down toward the ocean. Along the way you can see lava flowing like molasses. Three days has been suggested as a good time frame for exploring the park if you're not taking extensive hikes that eat up more time. Among the top hikes is the trail to Halemaumau Crater, emitting steam and sulfur. It's a moderate 3 1/2-mile hike and goes down 500 feet to the floor of Halemaumau Crater. You can also get a view and walk into a lava flow on a 10-minute walk from Crater Rim Drive. The Volcano House Hotel and Restaurant and the Kilauea Visitors Center and Park Headquarters are where you'll learn a great deal about the park and where you can get permits for overnight camping. They're all just inside the park's gate. There's no way to predict exactly what you'll see at the park. With luck, you'll view streaming rivers of red lava and you might see fountains of lava shooting hundreds of feet into the air. Or, the volcanoes could be completely still and silent. Bulletins sometimes keep you up-to-date on the volcano's activities. contact us | advertising with us | content licensing | privacy policy | terms of use | help (C) 2004 Destination360 All Rights Reserved Hawaii Map Select a region North America Central America South America Caribbean Hawaii Overview When to Go Events and Holidays Top 10 things to do Hawaiian History Interisland Flight Flights to Hawaii Hawaiian Islands Oahu Maui The Big Island Kauai Destinations Akaka Falls Anaehoomalu Bay Beaches Hawaii Volcano Park Kona Liliuokalani Gardens Hawaii Petroglyphs Puuhonua Rainbow Falls Hawaii Hotels Oahu Hotels Maui Hotels Big Island Hotels Kauai Hotels Travel Resources ATV Tours in Hawaii Hawaii Cruises Hawaiian Dinner Cruise Hawaiian Car Rental Hawaii Diving Golfing Helicopter Tour Luau Sailing Snorkeling Snuba Surfing Big Island Weather Weddings Wedding Photographer Hawaii WeddingHawaii Wedding, Big Island Hawaii Weddings Beach Weddings Hawaii Big Island, Kona Coast, Hawaiian Wedding Weddings, Vow Renewals, Commit Ceremonies Wedding Anniversary Celebrations Unions with Hawaiian cultural/romantic traditions in tropical, spiritual, seaside settings Romantic, Heartfelt Ceremonies with a personal touch!
