Since the Spanish-American War, 1898, our Nation has been under prolonged occupation by the United States of America. The primary objective of the Hawaiian Kingdom Government is to expose the occupation of our nation within the framework of the 1907 Hague Conventions IV and V and our domestic statutes , and to provide a foundation for transition and the ultimate end of the occupation of the Hawaiian Kingdom. Article 43 of the 1907 Hague Convention IV mandates that the occupying government, being the United States of America, must administer the laws of the occupied State, being the Hawaiian Kingdom, and any deviation of this mandate is a violation of international law. Presently, the Hawaiian Islands reluctantly serves as the HQ's for the largest of the nine unified military commands of the United States armed forces in the world, U.S. Pacific Command (USPACOM). The American Journal of International Law , volume 95, issue 4 (Oct., 2001), pp. 927-933, recently published an article on the Larsen vs. Hawaiian Kingdom arbitration case. The authors concluded "Because international tribunals lack the power of joinder that national courts enjoy, it is possible—as a result of procedural maneuvering alone—for legitimate international legal disputes to escape just adjudication. For example, in Larsen, the United States commanded an enviable litigation posture: even though the United States admitted its illegal overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom, it repeatedly refused to consent to international arbitration." On September 21, 2001 Mr. Larsen agreed to terminate the proceedings against the acting government at the Permanent Court of Arbitration, on condition that the acting government intercedes on his behalf at the United Nations level. The Chinese Journal of International Law , volume 1, issue 2, (2002), pp. 655-684, also recently published an article on the Larsen vs. Hawaiian Kingdom arbitration case. The author of the article is an associate attorney with a Swiss International law firm. Dr. Matthew Craven, Reader in International Law, from the University of London, SOAS, authored a Legal Opinion for the acting Government. On July 5, 2001, the Hawaiian Kingdom Government filed a Complaint Against the United States with the Security Council of the United Nations regarding the United States' occupation of the Hawaiian Islands. The entire Civil Code and Penal Code of the Hawaiian Islands has been provided on this site, to assist those researching domestic law. Brought to you by Cingular Cruise passengers now make up 3.5 percent of all visitors to the islands. Of them, 126,731 came by air to board cruise ships in Hawaii while 42,999 arrived on a cruise ship to tour the islands. So far this year, Hawaii has seen 92 cruise voyages, including 34 conducted on board Norwegian Cruise Line vessels. "Next year we are expecting more cruise visitors when Norwegian's Pride of America and Pride of Aloha homeport in Hawaii," said Marsha Wienert, the state's tourism liaison. Cruise-passenger onshore spending declined to $99 a day from $103.74 in the first nine months of 2002. The 4 percent drop is due primarily to lower spending by U.S. West and Canadian tourists. U.S. West tourists spent $86.63 per person this year compared to $98.68 for the corresponding 2002 period. Canadian visitors spent $96.21 ($102), U.S. East $106.90 ($106.12), and Europeans $96.14 ($96.13). There were 93,831 cruise passengers from the U.S. East Coast, down from 94,533 in 2002. Similarly, U.S. West passenger numbers declined by a few hundred. However, Canadian passenger numbers rose from 9,785 to 10,521, and Europeans grew from 3,056 to 4,216. More than 4,000 Hawaii residents cruised around the islands in the first nine months of this year, nearly 20 percent fewer than last year's figure of 4,996 people. Local cruise passengers spent $49 per person per day while on a cruise, about half of what nonresidents spend. Of the $49, they spent $15 on shore excursions, $11 on shopping and $5 on food and beverage. About those cruise visitors: Daily spending: $99. sample sample What plants and supplies made Hawaiian quilts? When and how did the start?The Hawaiian quilts first started when the hawai'ians held their first sewing circle on Sandwich Island. The first time they met was on April 3,1820. The ladies came from Boston and started the sewing circle. The plants used to make the designs for the Hawaiian quilts are ulu, pineapple, mum, hibiscus, wood rose, anthurium, white ginger, laua'e, heliconia, torch ginger, bird of paradise and kukui. To make the design, they study the shape of the plants and then create an exaggerated form of pattern which is beautifully symmetrical. The tools that the makers used were quilting hoops, sharp pins, bees wax, needles, art gum, scissors , dritz maker, ruler, thimbles, thread, stem ripper, pens and pencils. The quilting hoops come in all kinds of sizes. Sharp pins need to be ordinary straight pins and perfect silk pins will do the job but quilting pins are better. The art gum for cleaning spots or light penciled lines. The ruler comes in handy. Your middle finger is the pushing finger. Thimbles are important to use for your middle finger and for your thumb. It will be easier to use a thinner needle so the appliqueing of the quilt will look better.
