Wailea has internationally-acclaimed condo complexes built on the bluffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Both Wailea and Makena properties include condos on the beach and on the beautifully-manicured fairways. Kapalua and Kaanapali resorts on West Maui have many condo developments on the shore, and sprinkled among the world-class golf courses. Upcountry is zoned agricultural, and here you will find horses and cattle, farms and vegetables. Building restrictions do not permit condo developments in this region, but Pukalani is an exception. The central section of the island--the Kahului and Wailuku areas--have newer Maui condos set among older homes. Affordable Condo Rentals and Homes The resort communities of Maui are expensive. These areas are prime real estate--exclusive and upscale. Fortunately, however, there are several affordable areas nearby. On South Maui, Kihei is home to locals who work in the hotels and resorts. It also provides lodging, accommodations, and condos at budget-conscious prices. Lahaina, on West Maui, is an old whaling town, and it successfully mixes older homes with newer Maui condos. Central Maui, the civic, commercial region of the island, also offers a potpourri of types and prices of housing. With the hot tourist spots located on the southern coast of Maui (West and South Maui), the central isthmus takes care of the business of the island. Depending on location on Maui, a visitor can find a range of condos from luxury to affordable, from beach front to hillside. Topographically Kilauea appears as only a bulge on the southeastern flank of Mauna Loa, and so for many years Kilauea was thought to be a mere satellite of its giant neighbor, not a separate volcano. However, research over the past few decades shows clearly that Kilauea has its own magma-plumbing system, extending to the surface from more than 60 km deep in the earth. In fact, the summit of Kilauea lies on a curving line of volcanoes that includes Mauna Kea and Kohala and excludes Mauna Loa. In other words, Kilauea is to Mauna Kea as Lo`ihi is to Mauna Loa. Hawaiians used the word Kilauea only for the summit caldera, but earth scientists and, over time, popular usage have extended the name to include the entire volcano. 11 October 2002 The eruption of Kilauea Volcano that began in 1983 continues at the cinder-and-spatter cone of Pu`u `O`o (high point on skyline). Lava erupting from the cone flows through a tube system down Pulama pali about 11 km to the sea (lower left). Map of Kilauea, including location of Pu`u `O`o Sketch showing magma reservoir & active lava-tube system Kilauea is the home of Pele, the Hawaiian volcano goddess. Hawaiian chants and oral traditions tell in veiled form of many eruptions fomented by an angry Pele before the first European, the missionary Rev. William Ellis, saw the summit in 1823. The caldera was the site of nearly continuous activity during the 19th century and the early part of this century. Since 1952 there have been 34 eruptions, and since January 1983 eruptive activity has been continuous along the east rift zone. All told, Kilauea ranks among the world's most active volcanoes and may even top the list. | Eruption Update | Eruption Summary | Hazards | History | Kilauea Facts Map of the Island of Hawai`i Location 19.425 N 155.292 W Elev. Most Recent Eruption Continuous since January 3, 1983 Number of Historical Eruptions 61, not counting the continuous lava-lake activity in Halema`uma`u crater Summit Caldera The caldera itself has no Hawaiian name other than Kilauea but houses the famous crater, Halema`uma`u; "hale" is a house, "ma`uma`u" a type of fern. Kamapua`a, a jilted suitor of Pele, is said to have built a house of ferns over Halema`uma`u to keep Pele from escaping her home and causing eruptions. The ploy failed. You also had some good ideas that we were able to incorporate. You also were able to understand my view of looking for a value, and you could have run the price up if you wanted to, but I think you understood what was important to me. Thank you so much for that. The payment for the wedding is what you earned, but the flowers are because of who you are and what a special person you are and I wanted to say thank you for that." Daniel Fisher An important piece of information is that you will need to meet with a licensing agent when in Hawaii before your wedding. All you need to do is complete the application, bring a valid picture ID, be 18 or over, and pay $60 in cash. There may be an additional $5 agent fee. We suggest that you pay the extra $10 fee to rush the processing of the license following your wedding day. This will make it easier for you to proceed with the name change process on your personal documents soon after your wedding. You can download the wedding license application and access additional information regarding the wedding license by clicking on this link: http://www.hawaii.gov/doh/records/vr_marri.html . This license is valid for 30 days anywhere in the state of Hawaii. photos by Maui Photography This Ultimate Wedding Link Exchange site owned by Tori Rogers Click for the Next Page | Previous | Next Five | Random Site | List Sites Want to join the ring?
