In an effort to make this an unforgettable experience, Polynesian Adventures will take you as close as possible to the volcanic activity. Please read the following cautionary comments before selecting this tour. When lava enters the ocean, the intense heat produces a plume cloud with dangerous and potentially life threatening toxic gases, super heated steam, and hydrochloric acid. Airborne particles are a hazard to your eyes and lungs. Watch for shifting winds that can blow acid mist clouds over you. Leave the area at once. Where lava enters the ocean the coastline is extended. This new surface is unstable and may collapse at at any time without warning. Do not approach areas where lava is entering the ocean. Sharp lava cracks and holes, loose rock, and thin crust greatly increase your risk of getting hurt. Falling on lava can result in nasty wounds. Wear sturdy walking shoes. Use sunscreen, wear a hat, and drink plenty of fluids. If inland flows are present, and you use caution, you may have an opportunity to view fresh lava close up. Follow marked routes and your guides instructions. Molten lava is 2000 degrees F, so keep a safe distance and never go into areas where your escape route may be cut off. Do not throw objects into lava as this can cause burns from spattering lava or eye injuries from airborne volcanic glass fragments. BE AWARE, STAY ALERT, AND USE CAUTION AT ALL TIMES, DO NOT TAKE CHANCES. Terms and Conditions Please note: the name you enter at the time of booking must be exactly as appears on your photo I.D. Interisland Air Carriers will deny boarding if the passenger name, as shown on valid government-issued I.D. does not match the name on their voucher. Windsurfing lessons are fun! Honing your windsurfing skills is fun and invigorating if you've got the right conditions. I mean, why freeze yer butt off and thrash around in polluted waters when you can fall in hundreds of times in the cushy waters of paradise. Maui's warm water, and consistent winds make for the most user friendly sailing on the planet. These days, windsurfing instructors are finely tuned in the art of getting you where you want to be. (sailing along with the wind) All the schools here have competent, expert instructors who have seen it all. (you wont be embarrassed by anyone, just helped) You'll probably have a limited time on Maui, so lessons are the smart money for taking advantage of the sailing days you have here. These answers to a questionnaire I sent out are good jumping off points for looking into the schools further. These Maui Windsurfing schools are listed in the order that they submitted their responses to me. I gave them one chance to submit their information. These responses are their own words. At home we all know the nice restaurants for that special dinner, the local places for good Chinese or Italian food, and even the hole-in-the-walls which we like to think only we know about. When we come to Hawaii we are clueless. We may read Frommers or Fodor's and get an idea of what's available, or buy a good book like Robert and Cindy Carpenter's Hawaii Restaurant Guide. More often we tend to eat at our hotel or someplace nearby that "seems" good or even look for the nearest Denny's or McDonalds. Too often we find ourselves spending good money for food that's simply ok or worse. I'll always remember that the worst Chinese food my wife and I ever had was in San Francisco's Chinatown. We had no idea where to eat, so we just picked a place at random. The food was terrible! Matthew Gray understood this problem very well. As an accomplished chef and food critic for the Honolulu Advertiser, Gray had eaten in almost every restaurant on Oahu. He knew that there were really good places to eat, but that there were also quite a few pretty bad places also. After over ten years of experiencing the good and bad of Hawaii's restaurants, Matthew and his partner Keira Nagai, who also had worked for years in the food industry, decided to start their own business to share their knowledge of Oahu's restaurants with those of us who know far too little.
