The Chairman's Welcome Greetings and Aloha, Welcome to the website of the Hawaiian Kingdom Government presently operating within the occupied State of the Hawaiian Islands. Since the Spanish-American War, 1898, our Nation has been under prolonged occupation by the United States of America. Our web pages tell you about the range of activities carried out by the Hawaiian Government in developing our relations with the community of Nations in regards to the occupation and the profound economic benefits that arise from its exposure. The primary objective of the Hawaiian Kingdom Government is to expose the occupation of our nation within the framework of the 1907 Hague Conventions IV and V and our domestic statutes , and to provide a foundation for transition and the ultimate end of the occupation of the Hawaiian Kingdom. Article 43 of the 1907 Hague Convention IV mandates that the occupying government, being the United States of America, must administer the laws of the occupied State, being the Hawaiian Kingdom, and any deviation of this mandate is a violation of international law. Presently, the Hawaiian Islands reluctantly serves as the HQ's for the largest of the nine unified military commands of the United States armed forces in the world, U.S. Pacific Command (USPACOM). The American Journal of International Law , volume 95, issue 4 (Oct., 2001), pp. 927-933, recently published an article on the Larsen vs. Hawaiian Kingdom arbitration case. The authors concluded "Because international tribunals lack the power of joinder that national courts enjoy, it is possible—as a result of procedural maneuvering alone—for legitimate international legal disputes to escape just adjudication. For example, in Larsen, the United States commanded an enviable litigation posture: even though the United States admitted its illegal overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom, it repeatedly refused to consent to international arbitration." On September 21, 2001 Mr. Larsen agreed to terminate the proceedings against the acting government at the Permanent Court of Arbitration, on condition that the acting government intercedes on his behalf at the United Nations level. The Chinese Journal of International Law , volume 1, issue 2, (2002), pp. 655-684, also recently published an article on the Larsen vs. Hawaiian Kingdom arbitration case. The author of the article is an associate attorney with a Swiss International law firm. Dr. Matthew Craven, Reader in International Law, from the University of London, SOAS, authored a Legal Opinion for the acting Government. On July 5, 2001, the Hawaiian Kingdom Government filed a Complaint Against the United States with the Security Council of the United Nations regarding the United States' occupation of the Hawaiian Islands. The entire Civil Code and Penal Code of the Hawaiian Islands has been provided on this site, to assist those researching domestic law. In order to assist individuals of foreign ancestry here in the country and abroad in determining their Hawaiian nationality, the Hawaiian Kingdom Government is publishing on our web site sections of the Registry of Naturalized Subjects (c. 1840-1893) and the Registry of Denizens (c. 1840-1893) from the Hawai'i archives. Our Info for Nationals section contains information on citizenship and naturalization, along with essays regarding Hawaiian nationality, the relationship between the Hawaiian Kingdom and the United States, the fake revolution of 1893, and other common questions. And I did, sorta. Eventually. I got my new fabric all washed and ready and started cutting. Unfortunately, I musta been half asleep at the time, because I cut it wrong and had to go back to the fabric store yet again! Sheesh! Fabric 6, Mokihana O. However, the next day I was much more successful, and got my applique piece all properly cut out - Mokihana 1, Fabric 6. The following day I cut out my background piece - Mokihana 2, Fabric 6 (I’m catching up!). I carefully unfolded my green ulu applique piece and voila! There it was, waiting for me to baste it onto the background fabric. I think I should get a point for that. K’den. Mokihana 3 - Fabric 6. Then, the next day of quiet basting with my friend, I got the whole pattern basted onto the background! Pau! Mokihana 4, Fabric 6. Now I am ready to start appliqueing the pattern to the background. And I fully expect to have my score keep climbing! This is turning out to be a very rewarding project for me. I feel very spiritually connected to it, feeling a real connection to Hawaiian women years and years before me designing and quilting their own works of art. I couldn’t make it out to The Gathering this week. I was buried with work and a very large truck with a cherry picker and shredder attached to it was parked in my long, narrow driveway while a crew from Portland General Electric trimmed branches from the firs, maples, alders and willows away from the power lines. I was very disappointed that I couldn’t get out; it would have been a lovely day. However, there is next week. And I have a quilt square ready to be appliqued. The colors are just what I wanted and I feel so good about starting this. It is a song to me, and I am loving the singing of it. I tried this place due to the reviews below...the transplanted hawaiians may not have possessed a good palate in the first place...not recommended. Posted by KO on 11/22/2005 Just OK Fast food atmosphere, but OK food - prices are passable. What they lack is sauces and every plate is too full of starch. Would you really order rice AND potato salad if you had a choice? The problem is that too much of the menu is "sort of" Japanese, so it seems not quite right, though it may be very authentic Hawaiian. I came thinking I would get a good hawaiian BBQ like those I had enjoyed while a college freshman in Honolulu, but the BBQ chicken here is not even close. Ask anyone from Hawaii what they miss the most about home and the response is usually "the food". I can't tell you how happy I was to discover that L&L has come to Manhattan! My mouth waters everytime I think about it. They also have Portuguese sausage, which any local knows is a staple to a true local breakfast. I've eaten everything on the menu and I have to agree about the saimin, not the true local style. My only complaint...the one on 8th ave doesn't always play Hawaiian music.
