I have always loved seeing how happy couples are to receive beautiful Hawaii wedding photographs and video. I know most couples who plan a Hawaii wedding would like to have an excellent chance to get a Romantic Sunset Photograph at the end of their Hawaii wedding. Sadly most locations won't have a sunset and most photographers don't know how to capture it on film correctly even if it did happen. New - There are many couples who come to Hawaii who think that the weather in Hawaii is always nice. Many advertisements offer a sunset wedding package even though the sunset is on the opposite side of the island. This is quite common on Kauai and Oahu. People just don't ask enough questions. Hawaii also gets rain all the time. I worked on Kauai for six years and have seen it rain on far too many weddings. The sunsets are almost never visible.Nearly 50% of Kauai weddings get rain. Hanalei gets so much rain you could have a very wet vacation. It can be very nice but you never know. Maui's free locations are usually very small and crowded. The last two times I was on Maui it rained in Wailea and Lahina. I have seen as many as 14 couples show up at the same beach for a wedding.Oahu is fun and has good shopping, I don't consider it a romantic place. Many couples sit in traffic on their wedding day. I know the best sunset wedding location in Hawaii - and it's free. The sunsets are the best in Hawaii all year. It's like a machine - almost every night. Up at Waikoloa, just 25 miles from Kailua Kona on The Big Island of Hawaii, the rainfall is about 6 inches a year. Very little rain and excellent hotels and activities. What a great combination . Other locations on Hawaii Island aren't nearly as nice. I know several of the very best Licensed Ministersin Hawaii and we are offering an unbeatable wedding package. You also can arrange for more flowers, champagne, music, cake etc. if you want. You can customize your ceremony or leave it us - I'll even do a Keep sake edited Wedding Video along with my Forty Print Photography Package (2 still camera shoot - negatives available at $45.00) .You can spend the money you save having fun together on your Hawaii Honeymoon. Plus you will have beautiful wedding photographs and video by Kris. No deposit is required if you are using one of the Licensed Ministers on my list. Just pay the $150.00 ministers fee to reserve your date. The ministers fee is usually sent direct after you make your selection. I like the fact that nearly every couple is in contact with their Licensed Minister / Wedding Officiate.I will hold your date on my wedding calendar if we have the minister booked. Note that $150.00 is deducted from the package price when the ministers fee is paid. Come back and view my site often. I have 1,000's of new photo's to publish. I will also include photo's of some very poor locations. Watch for new photo's at Hapuna, Holoholokai and Harbor Beaches. Also many more at A-Bay. We also have purchased another very expensive computer and more cameras recently. We can now do DVD whenever required. We produce photo CD's several times every week. The most important thing by far is fun professional photography, using the best film, cameras and processing. I have everything covered including the video. Weddings are so much fun in Hawaii - it's the best for wedding photography and ceremonies by the sea. The best location for weddings in Hawaii is here in Waikoloa. No one who wants great Photo's likes rain. Here in Waikoloa you have less than 2% chance of rain and 95% chance of a great sunset. We charge less than many other photographers who don't have the equipment or experience that I do. Within the last month, I spent $8,000 for two new still camera systems complementing my already number one system developed over 12 years for Hawaii Weddings. A very cool 3 chip Digital Sony captures your ceremony by the sea. Nikon, Sony and digital = a great Hawaii wedding - you won't be disapointed. I am shooting more digital - just like Pro Wedding Photographers all over America. To read the latest about digital wedding photography you can read the same stuff I do every week at: DigitalPhotographers.net One method that works for me is to have 3 cameras. One pro color film, one digital and one backup. This is a slow move to digital. Pro film is still nice with bright highlights - like sunset. Digital images are made availabe on your free web site. I am not substituting to save money on film, it's just that digital is so nice. Actually I am spending lots of money because of the additional cameras, flash and memory cards. Also digital creates endless hours on the computer, but I feel it's worth it now - with the new cameras available. I am always striving to be the very best I can. The prints from digital are made on the same pro photo paper at our lab - made to last 100 years. Digital has arrived and it requires photographers to be computer geeks. I have been editing digital video for years already. Another really great feature about having everything on CD is my ability to edit in some of the best images from the photo shoot when making wedding DVD's - really impressive. Recently we had some bad weather pass by Hawaii. The clouds turned really nice colors after sunset - very very low light and after sunset. With the digital camera I was ready to capture the moment. The scene lasted less than TWO MINUTES. The flexability of digital allowed me dial in the equivelent of ASA 800 film to capture another very special photograph for them - along with the pro film - it's an added benefit that doesn't take away from what I've been doing for many years. This flexability (changing film speed in 10 seconds) is really wonderful. The other benefits of having everything on CD things like cropping and simple retouching at no charge. Also I can make an unlimited number of images. This is great for Photo Journalism style combined with the traditional. Also, if we have everything on CD, magazine style wedding album pages are possible in PhotoShop CS - really cool. Digital cannot be ignored and we are already a digital studio (video).Digital Video is way more complex than Digital Stills. Mention (email me) that you read this and I'll make a free automated website with photographs from your wedding. Available in 1 day. This is nice for family to see your wedding pictures on the net. Usually I email the password once the site is ready. Normally I will leave the site up for 60 days. Should family members want prints they can also order direct. Standard prints including simple retouching and custom cropping are just $10.00 + S/H. I can also host your wedding video on the web - ask for a quote. Video takes much longer to do for the web.

One of the 50 States of the USA, it is a mix of tradition and modern living, of large beach resorts and tropical adventure. Waikiki rules the tourist brochures, but the absolutely stunning landscape around the group should be more than enough to tempt most tourists to these shores. Hawaii Travel Guide Hawaii Accommodation Guide waikiki beach kauai maui big island Tourist Information Holiday Planner Activities & Water Sports Top Sightseeing Tours Or select from the options on the right: Quick Guide Highlights Facts Glamour destination of Maui Shopping and Waikiki Beach Scenic golf courses and surfing Aerial sightseeing tours Active volcanoes and hiking beach resorts and guesthouses land mass: 11,000 sq. mi population: 1.2 million tourists: 4.5 million total islands: 10 (+100) # of hotels: 200 language: English temp 0 C : Jan 26 ; Jun 30 money: US$ Oahu , in particular the tourist icon of Waikiki Beach, is visited by more than 4 million tourists each year, mostly Americans and Japanese. Waikiki beach, the shopping malls of Honolulu, Pearl Harbour, magnificent golf courses and the surf on the North Shore are its main attractions. The Big Island is by far the largest island in the far south of the group, but only 140,000 people live there. But, over a million tourists visit each year, drawn by the stunning tropical scenery, laid back lifestyle, snow capped mountains and lava flowing volcanoes. Scuba diving and game fishing are at its best here and there is a growing colony of large beach hotels and golf courses. Maui , by contrast, is the glamour beach destination with lots of large international hotels and condominium complexes alongside sweeping swimming beaches and manicured golf courses. The rural charm of the upper valleys and the historical port of Lahaina give the island a classical feel. Maui is also renowned for its excellent whale watching. Kauai , the garden island, is much quieter than Maui with equally good beaches and the most breathtaking mountain and coastal scenery with great hiking and kayaking opportunities. Those who love the outdoors will find Kauai to be the most compelling destination. Only on Molokai and Lanai will you truly escape commercialism - tourist infrastructure is limited, the scenery and beaches are not picture postcard, but a certain charm prevails where elsewhere in Hawaii it has been lost. Hawaii beach locations are renowned for their long stretches of white sand and great surfing conditions. If you like to just lie on the beach then the beaches throughout Hawaii will charm you. However, if you like to swim, you'll find some beaches to be fantastic fun, whilst others to be too dangerous to venture into. Winter months herald high surf to the northern shores of all islands and make swimming dangerous. In general, the best activity beaches are on Oahu, the most secluded beaches on the Big Island, the most scenic beaches on Kauai, and the best swimming beaches on Maui. Hawaii's isolation from the world has created a unique and thriving natural environment with stunning and diverse scenery from mist filler tropical rinforests to barren mountain scape volcanoes. Hawaii boasts numerous championship golf courses on Kauai, Maui and the Big Island which are generally part of a mega resort complex. Most resort courses are overtly manicured and lack the rough edge of European golf courses. The most breath-taking and challenging courses are found on the main island of Oahu. Hawaii is one of the most popular honeymoon and wedding destinations in the world, with Waikiki Beach a particular favourite amongst Japanese and the ostentatious resorts of Wailua on Maui and Princeville on Kauai with Americans. These large International resorts offer exceptional pampering along with fine dining to add to the naturally romantic scene of a tropical beach paradise. Honolulu Star-Bulletin Features Advertisement - Click to support our sponsors. Monday, January 15, 2001 By Ronen Zilberman, Star-Bulletin Players point and shoot as they jockey for position on the field. It's all fun and games at Hawaii All-Star Paintball as players come out of the woods to celebrate their field of dreams Paintball before politics By Burl Burlingame Star-Bulletin THERE'S a steady, hollow drumming -- thwip! thwip! thwip! -- as if vinyl hail is falling. And the stuttering chatter of air bursts. And the occasional shouted command, or cheer of victory. But other than that, standing at ground zero as 300 people engage in rapid-fire combat at close quarters is surprisingly quiet. Opening day at Hawaii All-Star Paintball drew hundreds of players from around the island yesterday in a benefit for Hawaii Food Bank. Owner Brandon Cayetano estimated about 1,500 cans of food were collected. By Ronen Zilberman, Star-Bulletin Ray Contreras eyes the amunition being handed to him. The paintballs, decorated with spots and stripes, are lightweight, but sting when they hit. "Even the other fields shut down for today in support," said Cayetano. He stood atop a Matson container in the center of the playing fields, looking down into the arenas and occasionally shouting orders like the skipper of a pirate ship: "You! Yeah, you! Mask DOWN, brah! Safety first! You HEAR me?" Located on a largely ignored spit of landfill left over from freeway construction, Cayetano had a busy couple of months bulldozing and cleaning up the site. "You wouldn't believe the junk that was here," he said, shaking his head. By Blaine Fergerstrom, Star-Bulletin An overhead view of the paintball grounds. The field is divided into various arenas, each with varying obstacles and degrees of difficulty. The games are basically a variation of capture-the-flag. "When you get right down to it, it's just playing cowboys and Indians," he said. "Except that that you can spend a thousand dollars for your gear and get totally wrapped up in it." The paintballs themselves are surprisingly tough gelatin capsules the size of marbles, filled with water and biodegradable dye. They don't burst unless they strike the target dead-on. Otherwise, they bounce away. "Yeah, I suppose you could eat them," said Cayetano, eyeing the reporter who asks the question. "But why would you want to?" By Ronen Zilberman, Star-Bulletin From left, Alex Frederick, Jonathan Mita and Samuel Nolan, lock and load, preparing for an intergalactic shoot 'em up. Players checking out the facility were happy with it, not just for the challenging courses but because of the location. Wayne Kiyabu, by day a worker at Frito Lay, was introduced to paintball by his brother -- "I was hooked by the first night!" -- and says that Cayetano's course is "just what Hawaii needs. "It's awesome, no kidding. The main thing is that it's centrally located. All the other courses are off in the sticks. It wasn't until I began playing that I realized how big the phenomenon was." Sheryl Miyagawa, Serene Kubota and Heather Enomoto, all about 20 and coeds, were trying paintball for the first time, and were enthusiastic. "It was totally fun," said Miyagawa. "But I didn't know it would hurt! When you get hit by the paintball, it stings!" "My friends told me, wear as much as you can, and they weren't kidding," said Enomoto. "Oh, it's not that bad," huffed Kubota. "Fun has its price." By Ronen Zilberman, Star-Bulletin Trisha Shimomi and Barry Tokuhama, paintball beginners, take a break to give each other support at the paintball field grand opening. Brad Rodrigues, by day a sales broker, began paintballing about a year ago. "My friends said, hey, try 'em, and I really got into it. "This central location will really help the game. It has a lot of space and is organized. A field like this will draw good people into the game." Paintball in Hawaii, although popular, has yet to tap into the lucrative tour or corporate market. Some companies sponsor games as a teambuilding exercise. Although Americans have led the paintball charge, Cayetano has seen a shift in Japanese attitudes. Even 10 years ago, Japanese visitors were crazy for target shooting, but wouldn't shoot at anything resembling a human," Cayetano said. "But that has changed." By Ronen Zilberman, Star-Bulletin A paintball warrior maneuvers for protection from being sprayed with lime green and fuchsia paint as he fires his weapon. How about videogames such as "Doom"? Have they made us more eager to shoot-'em-up? Cayetano shook his head. "Paintball is the antidote to videogames. It's out in the open. Fresh air and exercise. You're a target too. But mostly, there's no concept of teamwork in a videogame. You won't win in paintball unless you pull together." By Ronen Zilberman, Star-Bulletin Brandon Cayetano prefers the blast of paint to that of the political ring. Son o’ da guv is paintball commander BRANDON Cayetano has no intention of following in father Ben's political footsteps, and the governor has never played paintball, his son's passion. But the two share the gift of gab. Press Cayetano's "paintball" button and he goes, like 60 m.p.h. His new paintball field debuted yesterday near Sand Island and finally brings the islands into the modern age of the newly professional sport. "I first went crazy for paintball back in '83, and opened a competitive field in Waimanalo," said Cayetano. "I ran it basically so my friends and I could have a good time playing. I lost it in the early '90s. "I didn't have enough business savvy at the time to run it. I was naive." Discouraged, Cayetano ignored the sport for several years and explored what he calls the "dark side" of life. "Yeah, I got estranged from my family and friends. I knew what it was like on the streets, what it's like to be hungry. It was defensive times. I got into trouble. "But slowly, with the help of my parents, I worked my way back. I trained under computer gurus and got my act together." By coincidence, he worked as human resources and safety manager at United Laundry Services before the owner became his father's second wife. In the meantime, the paintball scene in Hawaii had stagnated, Cayetano believed. It was time someone brought it up to date, and why not him? His experiences in the '90s made him much more aware of the financial aspects of running a business. "In 1983, only the United States played paintball. Today, it's played in 39 countries and it's a $4-billion-a-year industry." Paintball is like any other sport, Cayetano said. It requires discipline, training, awareness and organization. This is created by creating fields like simulated war zones, with varying obstacles and handicaps. Paintball on Oahu had turned into a "renegade" game, with guys running around in the woods, just blasting away at each other. "We spent a lot of time just trying to tell people we weren't mercenaries in training!" he laughed. "There can be a kind of rift between the newbies and the tournament-level players. The newbies can get whacked on. They get excited, and the pros just rail 'em, which can be humbling and bum them out," said Cayetano. He intends to keep everything as even-handed as possible at the new site. Hawaii All-Star Paintball is divided into three zones or "fields" on a spit of land makai of the freeway near Sand Island. "It was trash land," said Cayetano. "I noticed it more than a year ago, and started the permit process to convert it into a paintball park." And no, being the governor's son didn't open any bureaucratic doors, he claims. "In fact, I think being the governor's kid might have slowed things down," he said. One zone comprises ABS water-pipe obstacles, a scenario called "hyper-ball" on the mainland. Another is what Cayetano called an "air-field," filled with inflatable obstacles, delivered by an airline with just hours to spare Saturday. "Thirteen grand to fly in balloons," he moaned. The third is a chessboard of mounds and berms for players to scramble over. The entire site is ringed with netting to prevent stray paintballs from whacking the freeway overpass. "The range on these things is only about 25 to 30 yards anyway," he said. "When I first started out in paintball, the guns were like pump shotguns, slow and inaccurate. Now you can even buy paintball guns for $1,200 that have computer chips in them to control your fire rate, like an automatic." Most paintball guns, though, run about $150, and are accurate enough to put a pattern in a pie plate at 20 yards. On the mainland, Army and Marine Corps use a paintball course for combat training because it's cheaper and more impressive than laser weapons. "When you get hit by a paintball, you know it," Cayetano chuckled. Cayetano raised the funds himself, mainly with the help of paintball enthusiasts like himself. Many show up after their 9-to-5s and help out in the evenings, getting the course ready. While dad doesn't play paintball, he knows Brandon has a passion for it. "Any father would want his son to follow in his footsteps," Brandon said. "But I'm more comfortable as a private businessman. Some people, like my Dad, are born to excel in politics. But not me!" The rooms were a little bit worn but we had a oceanfront view which was gorgeous. From our balcony, we could look down into the tidal pools and watch turtles & fish of all varieties. It was like a view you would get when snorkeling. The snorkeling beach next door is public and a little crowded but the snorkeling is one of the best on the island. You can swim with the turtles (but don't touch or bother them in any way!!. Remember these are not sand beaches. The pool area was very nice, but not large & fancy. There is no hot tub. Like all pool areas there was a shortage of lounges. Get there early and save one with a towel, then go get breakfast. They have a great breakfast buffet. Ours was included in our package. The bar/lounge was very nice with great staff and also had a great view of the turtles. There is a nice activity desk (Expedia)with helpful people. We had dinner at the resortone night which was good. All the prices are typical resort prices. They also had a very nice gift shop. The beach/pool restaurant and bar is also very nice. They charge $5/day parking which we didn't like. They will valet for you but then you need to tip as well as pay the $5, But that's what we did just for the convenience and because we were on vacation. We really liked the place!! Just returned from 8 days at OKBR. If you're not finicky, there is good value here. Like others who have posted, the place could use a little "umpf" But since you're gone most of the day does it really matter what color the paint, or condition of the carpet ? Our room was more than adequate with coffee maker, refrigerator, clothes iron, security safe, lanai, big shower. We shopped before booking and figured we saved over $60 per day and got more amenities. Our standard garden view still had an ocean view without paying the upgrade, plus received the 5th night for free. The Kama'aina Terrace restaurant puts on a great breakfast buffet, worth the $13.95. We only ate one dinner here, Fridays prime rib-seafood dinner buffet. At $34.95 it was only so-so. Most regular dinner prices run $18 to $35. Bar drinks run $8.00, do your own in-room. I can recommend lunch at the Kalanikai Grill. Good burgers or fish and chips at $8.00 in an ocean side setting. There is a mall within a mile of here that has fast food and grocery stores. Buy your pop, booze, and munchies and eat in room. Look around for other dining options. Tennis courts, swimming pool, and exercise room available. Next door to the resort is a great beach for swimming and snorkeling. Go to Snorkel Bobs on Alii Dr. to rent your gear for $9.00/week. All in all, I'd recommend to anyone. Very hard to beat the value. This review is the subjective opinion of a TripAdvisor member and not of TripAdvisor, Inc. 17 out of 17 TripAdvisor users found this review to be helpful. However, our room (#645) was horrible (stained carpeting and torn bed spread), so we asked for another room. Carpeting should be clean so that I can walk comfortably barefooted. The carpeting in our new room #515 was better but still needs replacing. The bathroom above ours leaked one day and we had to ask for maintenance to come in and fix the problem. Maid service was poor two times: Left used glasses on the table and left used towels in the bathroom floor, yet they took the other used towels. On the positive side, our room was large with a king bed, two chairs, table and ottoman, desk/chair; fabulous view of the pool area and ocean/tide pools. Service at the bar was great, although drinks were a little pricy. Excellent dinner at their main restaurant. We enjoyed the mai tais while watching the sunset and seeing the many turtles sleeping on the rocks in front of us in the tide pool. Nightly entertainment was quite enjoyable. I would definitely return here only if they upgrade their rooms. We were at least lucky to have been upgraded to an ocean deluxe room without any additional charges. Pick a room closer to the ocean to avoid the street noise. This place is located about 5 miles from the center of Kona on Alii drive. Also, Kahaluu beach, next to the hotel, is the BEST place for snorkeling. Bring an underwater camera!! I had the opportunity to swim within inches of turtles, Moorish idols, triggerfish, puffers, parrot fish, etc. This is the best place for snorkeling, especially for beginners. Just up the street is a shopping center, where you can grocery shop: Pick up the large bottle of mai tai mix and dark rum and save on your bar bill by making your own mai tais. Good place to shop for bottled water, sandwiches, and sushi! An internet cafe is there too. Overall we did enjoy our stay, but again, would like to see the place upgraded. Maybe there are other rooms that are refurbished. Ask before you book. One last thought: We spent five nights there. I think the next time we will book a condo like we did when we visited Kauai. This way we could have a kitchen to cook our breakfast and have a more comfortable place to stay. We stayed at the Outrigger Keauhou Beach Resort for 5 days in October. It is such a beautiful hotel in such a fabulous location. We had an Ocean View room which overlooked the beach, pool and on towards Kona Bay. The staff and service was wonderful. The hotel is begining to show its age but is still well maintained and very clean. On our last night there, the A/C went out on us. My friend when down to the front desk to report the problem and the maintenence man beat him back to the room. The problem was taken care of in about 30 minutes. Because we stayed 5 nights, we were intitled to the Breakfast Buffet and it's fabulous. They had every fruit you could want and then some. Eggs fixed several different ways, french toast and pancakes or waffles. Bacon and sausage as well as hash browns and potatoes fixed in some other ways. Each day there was several different things added in to make it interesting. For lunch, we were usually off sightseeing and ate wherever we were. Do to the high cost of food at most hotels, we found some wonderful places near the hotel. There is a Wendy's just up the hill. Just beyond that, there is a lovely mall that has Drysdales II, a fun restaurant with a neverending menu. We ate there twice. In the same mall we found a great little Mexican restaurant. It is small but there are tables inside and outside. The service is fast and the food is unbelievable. We ate there twice also. Next to that, all in a row, there is a Thai restaurant, a Subway in cast you just need a deli fix. These places were much less expensive than hotels and gourmet type restaurants if you are traveling on a budget. In the middle of this Mall, there is a small courtyard where they have intertainment several nights a week. All are FREE. We got lucky and saw a wonderful Hula show on Friday night and on Saturday, there was a Dixieland band for an hour then a wonderfully crazy band that played fiddles, washboards, accordions, base etc. Everyone was up dancing and clapping and carrying on. What fun. The Keauhou Beach Resort is a wonderful place to stay. Away from the noise of a town but close enough to visit as often as you want to. Will I stay there again? You bet I will. The Outrigger Hotel was booked by anagency for us. It was a surprise to realize that the hotel was located in the southwestern side of the island and not in the northwest. The NW, where the Hilton and the Marriott are located, we found to be quite warm, arid and moon-like! The SW was quite pleasant, tropical and lush. We were blessed for the location of this hotel. The staff was quite polite and accommodating. The food was excellent. The tranquility of the whole place is priceless. The views of the tropical surrounding, the ocean, and the sunsets are unforgettable. The only issue with the hotel is its old carpeting that is planned to be renovated soon. In spite of its age, built in the 70s, the hotel is quite charming and comfortable. Its location from Kona and other attractive places is just perfect. Having a car is a must! We enjoyed snorkeling and swimming using the public sandy beaches accessible within walking distance from the hotel. In spite of having its own sandy beaches it offers many tide pools to enjoy the marine life. We also found the abundance of the sea turtles quite amusing and relaxing in these tide pools and the beaches. For eating, we found a variety of restaurants in Kona and a shopping center up the hill from the hotel driving south on Alii Drive. We definitely stay at this hotel again, as it offers unexpected values to enjoy our vacations.
