This afternoon we are welcomed to the Hawaiian Islands with a fresh flower lei. Our motorcoach will transfer us to the Marriott Waikiki Beach Resort with an overnight. Day#2 - Saturday, January 28: Honolulu, Oahu This afternoon we will embark upon the Norwegian Pride of America. Unwind and relax, the day is yours to explore and enjoy. Don't forget to sign up for shore excursions or any spa service you may want to experience. Day #3 - Sunday, January 29: Hilo, Hawaii Nestled on the crescent-shaped shore of Hilo Bay, this beautiful port is an exotic greenhouse of lush tropical plants and abundant waterfalls. Snow-capped Mauna Kea and Kilauea craters tower dramatically in the background and provides proximity to some of this islands most spectacular scenery. You'll love Hilo's flourishing flowers and lush tropical plants. Day #4 - Monday, January 30: Kahului, Maui This bustling harbor is minutes away from some of this islands most scenic spots. Visit the sacred Iao Valley and the Maui Tropical Plantation, or hit the world-renowned links at nearby Kapalua. Kahului's beach is said to contain "Maui Diamonds, small white quartz stones mistaken for the real thing by early explorers. Tonight you will overnight in port at Kauhlui, Maui. Day #5 - Tuesday, January 31: Kahului, Maui Today will be another day spent in Kahului with a departure at 6:00 pm. Don't forget the nightlife with the Las Vegas style shows to dancing the night away in one of the nightclubs, or just star gazing on the deck. Day #6 - Wednesday, February 1: Kona, Hawaii Situated on the Western coast of the Big Island of Hawaii, Kona is warm and sunny year-round. With spectacular sunsets, numerous historic sites, abundant wildlife and marine life. Day #7 - Thursday, February 2: Nawiliwili, Kauai Verdant and lush, it is no wonder that this is considered the sacred "Garden Island" of Hawaii. The sweet smell of mokihana berries permeates the air and the lush green landscape intoxicates the senses. At Waimea Canyon, the union of water, sunshine, clouds and canyon walls create the most colorful rainbows imaginable. It is no wonder that Hollywood producers have come here hundreds of times when looking for paradise. South Pacific, Blue Hawaii, Raiders Of The Lost Ark and Jurassic Park were filmed here on the island of Kauai. Tonight you will overnight in port at Nawiliwili, Kauai. Day #8 - Friday, February 3: Nawiliwili, Kauai Today will be another day spent in Nawailiwili with a departure at 6:00 pm. Onboard the ship take advantage of what it has to offer. Enjoy the swimming pools / hot tubs, fitness center, duty free shops, and more. Or how about going to the full service spa, or visiting the library and reading a book as you look out over the ocean. It is your choice to do everything or nothing at all. Day #9 - Saturday, February 4: Honolulu, Oahu / Chicago Today we will disembark in Honolulu and spend the day touring the Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor and then begin our journey home. We will board our transfer coach to Honolulu's Airport with a flight back to Chicago traveling through the night. Different Styles of Hawaiian Shirts Different Types of Hawaiian Shirts There are different types of Hawaiian shirts based on the style or layout of the design. The most common ones are the basic all-over print and the scenic print. But there are variations within these types well as several other styles. We'll also cover some of the terminology used for Hawaiian shirts. All of our shirts are made in Hawaii with great care and with special attention to the details like matched pockets. Basic All-Over Print Hawaiian shirts: These shirts are probably the most common shirts. They are characterized by a repeating print that appears all over the fabric in a uniform manner as illustrated to the left. These shirts can be worn tucked in our out. These shirts typically do not match up perfectly to create a seamless image at the buttons. Scenic Print Hawaiian shirts: The scenic shirts are similar to the all-over print shirts in that the details in the print repeat in a uniform matter. The only difference is that these shirts contain scenery rather than just a simple repeating image of a flower or leaf. For some people, the scenic prints conjure up feelings of freedom and being on vacation. These shirts typically do not match up perfectly to create a seamless image at the buttons. Panel Hawaiian shirts: Some shirts have prints that are laid out in vertical panels, usually flowers and/or leaves. Like the basic all-over prints and the scenic prints, the panel designs have repeating patterns, but they repeat as you go from one side of the shirt to the other, rather than all over the shirt. These shirts typically do not match up perfectly to create a seamless image at the buttons. Border Hawaiian shirts: Shirts that have a design going across the shirt are called border Hawaiian shirts. Most of these shirts have a design in them that repeat every 10-12 inches as you go from one side of the shirt to the other. If the design happens to go across the bottom of the shirt, they may be called a Bottom Design Hawaiian shirt . The shirt illustrated at left is a border shirt that also happens to be a bottom print. Border Hawaiian shirts are meant to be worn untucked. Matched Prints: Some border or bottom print Hawaiian shirts have a seamless image at the buttons. The shirt to the left, unlike the one right above it, is perfectly matched at the buttons creating a seamless image as you go across the shirt. These shirt are harder to make and require greater skill and attention to detail. Many border print shirts do not match at the buttons like this one does. Engineered Hawaiian shirts: Engineered Hawaiian shirts have a seamless image from one side of the shirt to the other. The image usually repeats every 18 inches, which is greater than that of most border print shirts. The shirts also have a seamless image that is uninterrupted at the buttons. These shirts are usually the priciest shirts for any given quality of fabric because it requires the most fabric to manufacture. Engineered Hawaiian shirts are meant to be worn untucked to show off the entire design. Matched Pocket: The better Hawaiian shirts have a matched pocket. That means the pocket exactly matches the print on the shirt making it nearly invisible. In the picture to the left, you can see that the palm tree leaves on the pocket precisely line up with the leaves on the shirt. The result is a seamless image created by the pocket on the shirt. The Academy's permanent collection of over 35,000 works of art is anchored by one of the finest Asian collections in the United States. Special exhibitions and installations from the permanent collections reflect the encyclopedic nature of the Academy and the diversity of Hawaii by presenting a wide range of cultures, periods and media. The Honolulu Academy of Arts is a private, nonprofit institution located in a historic building not far from downtown Honolulu or Waikiki. The Doris Duke at the Academy (formerly the AcademyTheater) is one of Hawaii's most popular venues for independent, foreign and documentary films, as well as for lectures and performing arts. Unless otherwise noted, admission to all films is $7 general, $6 seniors(62+), students(w/I.D.), military(w/I.D.) and $5 members. Tickets for films may be purchased at the museum's front desk the day of the screening or at the theater entrance 30 minutes before the show.
