From beachfront bungalows to oceanside resorts, Maui hotels give you the convenience and comfort you need while you're away from home. Sun bathing on the pristine beaches and whale watching are two activities that make this island worth a stop on your trip to Hawaii. In Kihei, the Maui sunset lives up to its name. While it is not as new as other Maui hotels, these spacious condos give you all the amenities you would expect from any of the best hotels in Hawaii as well as dramatic sunsets at the end of the day. Two couples can easily share one of the units, which have two bedrooms and two bathrooms. There's no need to pack or buy beach accessories when you stay at this Maui hotel; the closet is filled with everything you need, like an umbrella and beach floats. The Maui sunset is great for first time visitors. Its central location makes it easy to explore the town on foot. Don't let this Maui hotels location near the beach fool you however, the water here has strong currents and swimming is not recommended. For equally spacious but more luxurious accommodation, the Fairmont Kea Lani Maui all suite hotel in Wailea is beautifully landscaped and well appointed. There are great views of Haleakala, and the ocean, as well as separate pools for adults and children, making this one of the most popular hotels in Hawaii for honeymooners. The rooms are comfortable and spacious, and come with two queen-sized beds. Wailea has an incredible resort called the Maui Prince Hotel. You will feel like royalty at this world class Maui Hotel. This is one of the most secluded hotels Hawaii has. The Maui Prince hotel has a secluded beach that is a haven from the crowds at the other nearby ocean front spots. The Maui Prince hotel is only 20 minutes away from the major destinations on the islands, so you won't feel like you're missing out when you choose this, what is easily one of the finest Maui hotels. In Lahaina , which is near the airport and where most tourists begin their trip, the two eleven story towers of the Westin conceal luxury that is unmatched by most of the other hotels in Hawaii. At the Westin Maui in Lahaina you can expect a good nights rest in the signature Heavenly Beds, which have pillow top mattresses and five types of pillows. The views from the rooms of Lanai, the elaborate pool area, and the pacific reward you for choosing to book a room at this Maui hotel. You will be awestruck by the extensive pool area that covers 87,000 square feet. There are heated pools, a waterslide, and waterfalls to splash in. Kids and adults alike will spend hours frolicking here. Inside, the elegance is extended, and you will hear the splash of falling water and the cries of exotic birds as you walk through this luxurious Maui hotel. A $2 million dollar art collection, and elaborate designs add a hint of finery to the island theme. If you're in Waikoloa, the Sheraton cradles you in comfort at a prime location on one of the best beaches in Maui Hawaii. There are two other buildings besides the beachfront structure; one has views of the mountains and the other is nestles in a tropical garden. Tourists who don't stay here come just to visit the bar for a drink and incredible ocean views. Families love that children eat free with every paying adult when they dine at the Shell Restaurant for either breakfast or dinner, something you won't find at most hotels Hawaii has to offer. Amenities that you can enjoy are the shuttle service into town, admission to the nearby gold courses, and sunset mai tai cocktails, and a continental breakfast. Maui Hawaii might seem like a crowded, distracting place to stay once you step off the plane in Lahaina's airport. With careful planning, you can find all the best hotels Hawaii has for you, which are a comfortable retreat from the bustle of the beaches and resorts. Comfortable accommodations are a must when you're traveling, and on this island there is no lack of fine Maui hotels to cater to your needs. contact us | advertising with us | content licensing | privacy policy | terms of use | help (C) 2004 Destination360 All Rights Reserved Hawaii Map Select a region North America Central America South America Caribbean Hawaii Overview When to Go Events and Holidays Top 10 things to do Hawaiian History Interisland Flight Flights to Hawaii Hawaiian Islands Oahu Maui The Big Island Kauai Destinations Haleakala Crater Hana Highway Hookipa Beach Kannapali Beach Lahaina Iao Valley Maui Ocean Center Molokini Crater Seven Sacred Pools Tedeschi Winery Hawaii Hotels Oahu Hotels Maui Hotels Big Island Hotels Kauai Hotels Travel Resources ATV Tours in Hawaii Hawaii Cruises Hawaiian Dinner Cruise Hawaiian Car Rental Hawaii Diving Golfing Helicopter Tour Luau Sailing Snorkeling Snuba Surfing Maui Weather Weddings Wedding Photographer Whale Watching
Hawaii Volcano
Hawaii Volcano Ages Reply to ASK-AN-EARTH-SCIENTIST Subject: Ages of the Hawaiian volcanoes Could you tell me when the different Hawaiian islands were formed? ..and Subject: Active Hawaiian Volcanoes How many volcanoes are active at this present time in hawaii? Each of the Hawaiian Islands is generally older than the next whenone moves up the island chain from southeast (the Big Island) to northwest (Kure). In fact, the chain continues beyond Kure as a series of now-submerged former islands known as seamounts. It is important to remember, however, that the time over which various active volcanoes on the islandsremain active is long (hunders of thousands of years) so that significantoverlap in ages occur on neighboring islands. Take for instance Haleakala on Maui: Although itis a great distance away from the presently erupting Kilauea, Haleakalalast erupted only about 200 years ago. Currently there are 3 volcanoes that we would classify as active in Hawaii: Kilauea, actively erupting since 1983 Mauna Loa, which last erupted in 1984 and is building for a new eruption inthe next few years Loihi, which erupted in 1996 The Dormant volcanoes are: Hualalai, last eruption in 1801 Haleakala, last erupted in ~1790 Here is some additional general age information from the book Volcanoes in theSea , 2nd Ed. by Macdonald, Abbott and Peterson (1983).This book can be purchased at: www.uhpress.hawaii.edu .
