A popular vacation, Hawaii travel has much to offer visitors. The sandy beaches and beautiful ocean views are only part of what makes Hawaii an ideal destination. Hawaii offers a great local environment and is known for their friendly hospitality. There are some important things a traveler must know before hitting the beaches in Hawaii to make their stay the best it can be. Clothing: Hawaii has a casual atmosphere where comfort is the style. Clothing is usually loose and flowing. The climate varies throughout the islands, but this loose style will be welcomed and comfortable no matter where a traveler goes. Weather: Hawaii usually had highs in the 80s and night time lows in the 60s or 70s throughout the year. The sun can get very strong and sunscreen protection is recommended. Rain is not too big of a hassle on the islands as the rainiest time of year is from October to May and when it does rain it does not usually do so for long periods of time. Customs: Hawaiians are famous for their hospitality. Leis are given to visitors as a symbol of friendship. Hawaiian language is easy to pronounce as each syllable is simply sounded out. Visitors will see native language all over on signs and in shops. Restrooms are usually labeled Wahine for women and Kane for men. Rubber sandals are the most popular footwear and shoes of any kind should be removed upon entering a home. Warnings: As an island in the ocean, Hawaii faces some threats of severe weather. There is a system on the island that all travelers should be familiar with when visiting. Sirens in combination with radio and television warnings alert people to tsunamis, hurricanes, windstorms and other severe weather conditions. Directions given through the warning system should be followed. These helpful tips for Hawaii travel will help a person get the most out of their Hawaiian vacation. Hawaii Volcano, Mauna Loa Volcano, Kilauea Volcano, Volcano House Hotel, Home > Destinations > North America > United States > Hawaii > Big Island > Halema Uma U Crater Halema Uma U Crater Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is the state's premier natural attraction, containing tow of the most active volcanoes in the world, Kilauea and Mauna Loa. The park extends for 377 miles from the 13,777-foot summit of Mauna Loa down to the Pacific, where Kilaluea, the youngest of the volcanic mountains, has since 1983 been pushing into the ocean from a vent, creating new land. Compared to more active volcanoes around the Pacific Rim and in other areas, Hawaii's volcanoes are fairly benign, so you can pass eruptions and lava flows in relative safety. No matter where you look, you'll see volcano views from a range of perspectives. Much of the park is preserved as wilderness, but it does provide 150 miles of trails, two visitor centers, and two scenic drives with a wealth of volcano views An 11-mile drive, called Crater Rim, passes by many rising steam vents. The Chain of Craters Road, a 46-mile round trip journey, goes by historic pit craters and heads down toward the ocean. Along the way you can see lava flowing like molasses. Three days has been suggested as a good time frame for exploring the park if you're not taking extensive hikes that eat up more time. Among the top hikes is the trail to Halemaumau Crater, emitting steam and sulfur. It's a moderate 3 1/2-mile hike and goes down 500 feet to the floor of Halemaumau Crater. You can also get a view and walk into a lava flow on a 10-minute walk from Crater Rim Drive. The Volcano House Hotel and Restaurant and the Kilauea Visitors Center and Park Headquarters are where you'll learn a great deal about the park and where you can get permits for overnight camping. They're all just inside the park's gate. There's no way to predict exactly what you'll see at the park. With luck, you'll view streaming rivers of red lava and you might see fountains of lava shooting hundreds of feet into the air. Or, the volcanoes could be completely still and silent. The Hawaii Constitution was framed by a Constitutional Convention underAct 334, Session Laws of Hawaii 1949. It was adopted by the people atthe election held on November 7, 1950, and was deemed amended when threepropositions submitted to the people in accordance with the Act ofCongress approved March 18, 1959, 73 Stat 4, Public Law 86-3, wereadopted by the people at the election held on June 27, 1959. As soamended, it was accepted, ratified, and confirmed by Congress by the Actof March 18, 1959. It went into effect on August 21, 1959, upon theissuance of a presidential proclamation admitting the state of Hawaiiinto the Union. The Constitution has since been amended a number of times in accordancewith proposals adopted by the legislature or by constitutionalconvention and ratified by the people. The source of these amendmentsis indicated in the source notes immediately following the text of theamended or new section. Revision Note On November 7, 1978, amendments to the Constitution proposed by theConstitutional Convention of 1978 were presented to the electorate forits approval. The Lieutenant Governor's computer report showed that allof the proposed amendments passed by the necessary constitutionalmargin. However, the Supreme Court of Hawaii in Kahalekai v. Doi, 60 H.324, 590 P.2d 543 (1979), held that a number of the proposed amendmentswere not validly ratified. The revisor has deleted from theConstitution these invalid amendments and added explanatory notes to thesections concerned. This deletion has been done under the authority ofResolution No. 29 of the 1978 Constitutional Convention authorizing therevisor "to effect such necessary rearrangement, renumbering andtechnical changes of the sections within the articles of the StateConstitution, as may be affected, for proper form and arrangement andproper order in the State Constitution in the event that any or some ofthe amendments to the State Constitution proposed by the ConstitutionalConvention of Hawaii of 1978 are not ratified by the electorate." In addition to the abovementioned amendments, removed from the text ofthe Constitution, there appear to be other proposed amendments that mayhave failed of ratification. A number of unspecified amendments,involving technical, stylistic, and incidental changes, were submittedfor approval by the electorate under Question 34. As to these, theCourt stated: The question of whether any amendment submitted for approval by QuestionNo. 34 was in fact approved ... dependents on its effect uponsubstantive law. If the amendment is purely stylistic and technical innature, and does not alter the sense, meaning or effect of any provisionof the Constitution, it was approved by the electorate and has become apart of the revised Constitution. On the other hand, if the amendmentalters the sense, meaning or effect of any provision of theConstitution, it was not ratified and is not effective to change thelanguage of the Constitution. Obviously, we are not now in a positionto make these line by line determinations. The revisor does not consider that the authority granted underResolution No. 29 embraces the elimination of proposed amendments ashaving failed of ratification where the issue has not been adjudicated. Thus the text of the Constitution includes all the proposed amendmentssubmitted for ratification under Question 34. As an aid to the readers,however, an attempt has been made to identify all suchamendments--except those obviously purely technical and stylistic andclearly nonsubstantive (which have been ratified)--and explanatory noteshave been appended thereto.
