Executive Chef Thomas Muromoto was born and raised in Hawaii and has a culinary career that spans Hawaii's finest restaurants. He has won numerous awards for his creations including the "Top Honor Best of Show" award at the Taste of Lahaina. Prior to his work in Food and Beverage, Muromoto served in the US Navy on the USS Kitty Hawk and surfed on the professional circuit. Chef Thomas is married to wife Liane and they have two children. Award-Winning Pulehu Beef Tenderloin & Opae Marinated Beef tenderloin and Shrimp, grilled over an open flame with a Chipotle Aioli, cilantro pesto and Asian sweet soy sauce. Prepared by Executive Chef Thomas Muromoto 2005 Taste of Lahaina "Best of Show Award" winner. ( Click here for more details ) Six Servings Beef Marinade & dressing 1/4 cup Sweet Soy Sauce 3 Tbsp Soy Sauce, low sodium 1 tsp Fish Sauce 3 Tbsp Water 1 tsp Garlic, Chopped 1 tsp Ginger, peeled chopped 2 Tbsp Green Onions, Chopped 1/4 cup Basil, Chopped 2 Tbsp Cilantro w/ stems chopped 1 Tbsp Sambal olek 1/4cup Sweet Chili Sauce Black pepper, grd to taste 1 cup Salad Oil 4 Beef tenderloin steaks Steps 1) Combine all ingredients and mix well. 2) Reserve 3 tablespoons for topping of entree, Use remainder to marinate beef. 3) Place beef tenderloin or other meats in marinade. Let sit for 4 hours. 4) Place on broiler and cook to desired doneness. Cilantro, Garlic Pesto Shrimp Marinade 1/4 cup Cilantro w/stems chopped 16 Cloves Garlic, cloves roasted 1/8 cup Green onions, chopped 1/4 cup Parsley, leaves only, chop 1 cup Olive blend oil Salt to taste 8 pcs Shrimp, 16/20 ct Steps 1) In blender combine all ingredients blend together well. 2) Season with a little salt. 3) Reserve 3 tablespoons for topping of entree. 4) Use remainder of pesto to marinate shrimp for 2-4 hours. 5) Grill to order. Chipotle Aioli 1 each Egg, yolk 1 tsp Garlic, chopped 2 tsp Chipotle chili's 2 each Lime juice, fresh 4 Tbsp Honey 3 Tbsp Water 1 cup Olive blend Salt to taste Steps 1) In blender combine all ingredients except oil. Blend together well. 2) While blending slowly add oil till all is blended. 3) Season with a little salt. Variations: Use above sauces & marinates with other meats & seafood. Hawaiian shirts (also known as Aloha shirts), have become the recognized symbol of this tropical paradise. The bold, colorful patterns illustrate the lifestyle, culture, flowers, foliage and heritage of the Hawaiian Islands. The American Textile History Museum presents a special exhibition, Let’s Go Hawaiian from January to June, 2004. It is a fanciful look at our fascination with Hawaii, its influence on mainstream culture, and a lighthearted exploration of the cult of the Hawaiian shirt. The exhibit tells the story of our enchantment with Waikiki through the exhibition of over 150 shirts from the 1930s through the 60s. The exhibit invites you to step off a cruise ship into a make-believe vacation in paradise. The illusion is supported by tourist memorabilia, maps, tropical scenery, and other artifacts representative of our notions of what Hawaii was and is. From early surfers, cruise ships and the burgeoning tourist trade to Elvis, the Beach Boys and Parrot Heads, the sounds, colors, styles and ethos of ‘Blue Hawaii’ will be resident at ATHM during the run of the special exhibition. The areas towardsDiamond Head are near to the expansive picnic and recreationalfacilities, including those of Kapiolani Park. Kristina Malsberger writes, "As I threadmy way through a maze of umbrellas, sand castles, and bronzebodies, it seems that some things have hardly changed since thedays when Bing Crosby crooned 'Sweet Leilani' here in the1937 film 'Waikiki Wedding.' Yes, the surfboards andswimsuits have shrunk and the high-rise forest has grown, butfolks still come here for the same reasons as always: to soak upthe tropical sunshine, to splash around in the surf, and toengage in that unique Waikiki tradition — the outriggercanoe ride." Newcomers should take special care whenusing personal flotation devices (e.g., inflatable mattresses,styrofoam swim boards, et al.) — they are just nosubstitute for good swimming technique. Be wary of runawaysurfboards - they can be dangerous. Ask the lifeguards where thedeep holes are. Stay off of the breakwater and sea walls; theyare slippery and you can get pounded and hurt - especially duringhigh surf.
