Virtual Tour of Old Lahaina Town Penny's Place Inn Paradise Bed and Breakfast is located on the island of Maui, Hawaii, on world famous Front Street in Historic Old Lahaina Town. Just150 feet from the water's edge, we offer ocean views of Lana'i, Moloka'i, and the leeward beaches of Lahaina and the Kaanapali Resort and golf course area. Lahaina Town was once the Whaling capitol of the world and the Royal Capitol of the Hawaiian Islands. The Pacific Whale Foundation now studies and protects the whales that visit between December and April, and the Lahaina Restoration Foundation maintains and protects the historic sites of Lahaina Town dating back to the time of the Monarchy, the Whalers, and the Missionaries. Front street is the main street through town and runs parallel with the water. The colorful buildings resemble an old western town with false fronts and interesting details. There are little shops, galleries, and watering holes in abundance, and it can take several days to find and explore them all. At sunset, it seems, everyone in town gathers along the sea wall to watch the glorious sunset, before dinner at one of Lahaina's many fine restaurants. In winter, windsurfers from around the world flock to the town of Paia to ride the waves; Hookipa Beach , known all over the globe for its brisk winds and excellent waves, is the site of several world-championship contests. Kanaha , west of Kahului Airport, also has dependable winds. When the winds turn northerly, Kihei is the spot to be; some days, you can spot whales in the distance behind the windsurfers. The northern end of Kihei is best: Ohukai Park , the first beach as you enter South Kiehi Road from the northern end, has not only good winds, but also parking, a long strip of grass to assemble your gear, and good access to the water. Experienced windsurfers here are found in front of the Maui Sunset condo, 1032 S. Kihei Rd., near Waipuilani Street (a block north of McDonald's), which has great windsurfing conditions but a very shallow reef (not good for beginners). Hawaiian Island Surf and Sport , 415 Dairy Rd., Kahului (tel. 800/231-6958 or 808/871-4981; www.hawaiianisland.com), offers lessons (from $79), rentals, and repairs. Other shops that offer rentals and lessons are Hawaiian Sailboarding Techniques , 425 Koloa St., Kahului (tel. 800/968-5423 or 808/871-5423; www.hstwindsurfing.com), with 2 1/2-hour lessons from $79; and Maui Windsurf Co ., 22 Hana Hwy., Kahului (tel. 800/872-0999 or 808/877-4816; www.maui-windsurf.com), which has complete equipment rental (board, sail, rig harness, and roof rack) from $45 and 1- or 2 1/2-hour lessons ranging from $69 to $75. This is just a fast food restaurant. Posted by Boy Bunny on 07/05/2005 Paradise Pig Out Don't let the fast food decor fool you--the food is delicious AND cheap! I had the kahlua and lau lau combo--any restaurant that allows you to double up on pork is all right in my book. It was served with rice AND macaroni salad--two carbs instead of just one! Along with the usual ketchup, mustard, and relish, there was a very good Vietnamese hot sauce on the condiment stand. Lest you think I'm totally unhealth conscious, the taro leafs and cabbage that came with the kahlua and lau lau were tender and flavorful. The staff was friendly, helpful, and genuinely concerned about my dining experience. Posted by islander on 06/18/2005 Gotta love it Finally, authentic tasting island style bbq...cheap and does the trick. Having been away from the islands for a while, it's nice to know that I can still get a taste of home here in NYC. BBQ chicken, kalbi and mac salad just as I remember it. I was surprised they even had spam musubi! Read More ... Hawaiian Shirts & Dresses
Hawaiian Shirts and Hawaiian Dresses photo shoot with Sondra Barker and Lindsay Hayes - December 2003 Hawaiian Shirts & Dresses Photo Shoot - December 2003 To feature our newest Hawaiian shirts, dresses, tops and bottoms, we headed out to a beach located a few hundred yards away from downtown Honolulu. For the December 2003 photo shoot, we chose Sand Island. While most people associate surfing with the North Shore of Oahu, there are other surf spots all around the island. Sand Island is located at the mouth of Honolulu Harbor, Oahu's major shipping port. Sand Island is a popular camp site for those who wish to rough it in a tent a stone throws away from downtown. On a typical day, one can find people crabbing, fishing, surfing, and canoe paddling in the waters just off-shore. This photoshoot marks the debut of Sondra Barker and Lindsay Hayes for AlohaFunWear.com. Sondra is a University of Hawaii student and has quite a funny streak. Lindsay is a hair stylist in Honolulu and agreed to be in the photo shoot after some gentle coaxing. Dave Randall modeled Hawaiian shirts for us in our February 2002 photo shoot at Makapuu Beach. The pictures below depict some fun and not-so-serious moments of our photo shoot as we tried to photograph our latest Hawaiian shirts and especially our different styles of Hawaiian dresses. We also included our newest super soft rayon Hawaiian shirts and dresses as well as matching Hawaiian print capri pants and halter top.
