Hawaiian Shirts and Hawaiian Dresses photo shoot with Sondra Barker and Lindsay Hayes - December 2003 Hawaiian Shirts & Dresses Photo Shoot - December 2003 To feature our newest Hawaiian shirts, dresses, tops and bottoms, we headed out to a beach located a few hundred yards away from downtown Honolulu. For the December 2003 photo shoot, we chose Sand Island. While most people associate surfing with the North Shore of Oahu, there are other surf spots all around the island. Sand Island is located at the mouth of Honolulu Harbor, Oahu's major shipping port. Sand Island is a popular camp site for those who wish to rough it in a tent a stone throws away from downtown. On a typical day, one can find people crabbing, fishing, surfing, and canoe paddling in the waters just off-shore. This photoshoot marks the debut of Sondra Barker and Lindsay Hayes for AlohaFunWear.com. Sondra is a University of Hawaii student and has quite a funny streak. Lindsay is a hair stylist in Honolulu and agreed to be in the photo shoot after some gentle coaxing. Dave Randall modeled Hawaiian shirts for us in our February 2002 photo shoot at Makapuu Beach. The pictures below depict some fun and not-so-serious moments of our photo shoot as we tried to photograph our latest Hawaiian shirts and especially our different styles of Hawaiian dresses. We also included our newest super soft rayon Hawaiian shirts and dresses as well as matching Hawaiian print capri pants and halter top. Hawaiian Astronomical Society - Deepsky Atlas Hawaiian Astronomical Society Constellations: Stories and a Deepsky Atlas HAS Home Search All Sky Maps Constellations Listing Deepsky Listings Jay Wrathall's Messiers The Hawaiian Astronomical Society Storybook and Deepsky Atlas is a long term effort to provide a good online atlas of the heavens, combined with photographs of significant objects, and their descriptions. A second goal involves mapping the sky, using the following plan: Each constellation will receive a wide area map. There follows more detailed maps of the constellation, beginning in its northeast quadrant, and moving counter-clockwise around the constellation. Obviously, we had to make allowances for some peculiar shapes. We thank Software Bisque's The Sky for Windows for making this possible. A third goal involves telling the story(ies) behind the constellation. Many good stories from both Greco-Roman, and other civilizations enrich our culture. We thank Kayoko Calef for much of the research in this area. Many constellations, particularly the southern ones, have no myth associated with them. For their "myth" section, I have added biographies of the scientists associated with them. We know of no other site that has attempted combining detailed maps, deepsky objects, and myth into individual constellation pages. That said, certain elements have been tried, and they need mentioning. SEDS has become a huge repository of astronomical images. Their cross-referenced Messier catalog (maintained by Hartmut Frommert ) has become the Internet standard. SEDS combines scientific data, images, and crude maps. These pages use this fine work. Thus, you will find many links to SEDS here. See also SEDS' mirror site . The Peoria Astronomical Society provides another Messier survey of the sky , as part of their Astronomical Handbook . For other deepsky image catalogs, click here . Finally, there is the Digital Sky Survey, a huge project entering its second generation. This is a monochrome CCD record of the entire sky. Generation one is a more superficial scan of the sky. Generation two achieves the depth of a longer focus 10-12" telescope. A half degree field takes up to two megabytes. You can access the survey easily through the HAS Web site, thanks to the work of Gary Ward. This is an ambitious project that will take time to realize. More than 200 people attended the protest, the union said Wednesday morning. The luau has moved its location since our lastvisit. It is now located on the beach on Front Street in Lahaina near the Cannery Mall. All drinks are included in your fee. All seats arepre-assigned, so there is no need to try to beat the crowds in order to get a good seat.What you might wish to consider is making your reservation well in advance of your trip toHawaii. That, above all else, will ensure you a good seat for the after-dinner show. At around 6:30 the imu presentation is held where the Kalua Pua`a isunearthed from its underground oven. As you return to your seat, your host escorts your table to the hale a`i(eating house) where many traditional Hawaiian and western foods are served buffet style.Traditional luau favorites include chicken long rice, mahi mahi, poke (marinated raw ahituna), lomi lomi salmon (salmon bits with tomatoes and onions), haupia (coconut pudding)and of course, the Kalua Pua`a.
