[ Check rates for Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort ] We loved the Waikiki Marriott, granted we stay in marriotts most everywhere we go because we've always been very pleased with them but this hotel was especially nice. Concerige was amazing and gave us great directions to our Luau on the other side of the island and to Pearl harbor. She gave us a ton of really good insider information and saved us a lot of money on different events and souveniers. The lobby is open air as most in Hawaii are and it is spacious and absolutely gorgeous. The flower arrangements were divine!! You have never seen anything like them. We had a double balcony and had views of both the mountain (which looks almost magical at night) and the beach. It was very spacious and you could sink into the beds and stay all day if there wasn't so much to do. Great room service. The decor is so tropical and modern. The room had the most beautiful drapes and sheets. Yellow usually isn't a color I would like but they found a beautiful pattern that was pure Hawaii. The decor throughout the hotel was just as true to the tropical spirit. I have to mention once more the gorgeous floral arrangments! The architechture is also really modern and open. [ Check rates for Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort ] by janiac This hotel was very nice and fit our needs. The rooms were quite large. We didn't add a cot to our two doubles, but one could have easily fit. We had an ocean view and a nice balcony to enjoy evenings on. I actually enjoyed quite a few nights eating breakfast or snacks there that I had stored in my fridge. The music from the hotel next door could be nice at times, annoying at night when I was trying to sleep. Although, I was usually so tired, it didn't matter how loud it sounded. Pluses: Hotel has a lot of things onsite -- two ABC stores for basic needs, restaurants and stores, plus two concierge desks located in different parts of the hotel with usually two concierges working both desks (meaning four total), and a very nice spa. Drawbacks: the pools were smallish for a resort. . Elevators were very slow (partly because all 400 girls and parents had to be places at certain times or tried to go back to their rooms at the same time) I don't know how much my room was because it was part of the package deal we got through AACD Location is great if you don't want to be situated in the middle of the wackiness of Waikiki. It's situated on the far end of the strip so it's quieter, but close enough to easily walk everywhere. There is a small beach area with a protective breakwall (almost a completely walled in beach area), so it's safe, but not as pretty as a natural ocean. There are fish in here, and the girls and I brought bread down and fed them (looked like a piranha frenzy after awhile). [ Check rates for Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort ] My family of 4 was there from 1/25 until 1/27- 2 nights. Location was outstanding. Directly across the street is the ocean. We had a Corner Deluxe room 2232. Saw beautiful sunsets from our window. The room only had 1 balcony, but the window facing the ocean was breathtaking. (Though it really would have been that much nicer had it been a balcony, too.) The room was clean and large. The service in the hotel was decent. We ate for breakfast at Kuhio Grill, the buffet. My hubby and our sons (11 and 10) all loved it. Good selection. Dinner was room service one night, again very good, and other night was at D.K. Steakhouse which is in conjuntion with Sansei Sushi. Same owner. D.K. Steakhouse was extremely overpriced. EXTREMELY. My hubby's steak was fair, and overcooked. My shrimp in garlic was fair. Our appetizers were the Monster Shrimp cocktail, you get 3, but they were HUGE and I got the escargot. The escargot was just okay, and I love escargot. Our bill was $250 with tip for 2 adults and 2 kids. Both of our boys ordered lobster tails (about 7 oz each) for $40 each. The thing that sucks is that for the prices that they charge NOTHING comes with the dinners. Everything else is ala carte. Ridiculous. The lighting is VERY VERY poor, too. We will not return there. Service was friendly, but for those prices these had better be. MUST SEE is the beach of Lanikai! Lanikai Beach is what we saw on the Travel Channel. They named it the #1 beach on all of Hawaii. So, since we were on Oahu, and we were not that impressed with Waikiki, we decided to try to find this tucked away gem. It is all that and the bag of chips. Lanikai is about 1/2 hour away from the hotel. Get a map, though, as it is really tucked away. So, Marriott is fine, great location, no doubt, too. Would definitely stay there again. Oh, and their pool is a joke, as I had read on other boards. heard from my sons that the water is like ICE. Hit the beach, avoid the pool. last visit on January, 2005. Written on May 30, 2004. [ Check rates for Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort ] Great features and a great location at a decent price for Waikiki! We stayed in the Paoakalani Tower which is the newer of the two towers and had a nice view of Diamond Head and the ocean. The Marriott complex occupies an entire block at the east end of the Waikiki strip with the beach right across the street. It is also within walking distance of most all of the shopping, dining and night life Waikiki has to offer. We really enjoyed the various street performers that come out at twilight to earn your tips. Parking is expensive, but unless youre part of a tour group youll want to rent a car (Hertz has an office & cars at the Marriott) to get out and explore the island beyond Honolulu. The traffic was congested as reputed, but nowhere near as bad as driving on the LA or NY freeways. Theres easy access via Kapahulu Street to Interstate H1 to drive over to Pearl Harbor and the North Shore, plus there are also some scenic drives we made on Highways 61 & 63 through the mountains northeast of Honolulu. The hotel lobby has a beautiful open-air atrium complete with waterfalls and there is a convenience store and a coffee shop adjoining it. There are also other stores in a mini-mall plus three good restaurants in the complex. The staff was friendly, helpful, and tri-lingual since several major Japanese travel agencies book tours groups at this hotel. Service was excellent and we loved the tropical dcor in our room. We will definitely stay there again! If you have ever been then you would know EXACTLY what to expect - inexpensive, tasty and plentiful portions of Asian inspired dishes. YUM! Posted by Anonymous on 08/17/2005 Ordered Delivery The food was good and the price was great... Posted by ed on 07/06/2005 Just fair Ate at this location july 3. Mediocre at best. This is just a fast food restaurant. Posted by Boy Bunny on 07/05/2005 Paradise Pig Out Don't let the fast food decor fool you--the food is delicious AND cheap! I had the kahlua and lau lau combo--any restaurant that allows you to double up on pork is all right in my book. It was served with rice AND macaroni salad--two carbs instead of just one! Along with the usual ketchup, mustard, and relish, there was a very good Vietnamese hot sauce on the condiment stand. Lest you think I'm totally unhealth conscious, the taro leafs and cabbage that came with the kahlua and lau lau were tender and flavorful. The staff was friendly, helpful, and genuinely concerned about my dining experience. Posted by islander on 06/18/2005 Gotta love it Finally, authentic tasting island style bbq...cheap and does the trick. Having been away from the islands for a while, it's nice to know that I can still get a taste of home here in NYC. BBQ chicken, kalbi and mac salad just as I remember it. I was surprised they even had spam musubi! Read More ...
