A popular vacation, Hawaii travel has much to offer visitors. The sandy beaches and beautiful ocean views are only part of what makes Hawaii an ideal destination. Hawaii offers a great local environment and is known for their friendly hospitality. There are some important things a traveler must know before hitting the beaches in Hawaii to make their stay the best it can be. Clothing: Hawaii has a casual atmosphere where comfort is the style. Clothing is usually loose and flowing. The climate varies throughout the islands, but this loose style will be welcomed and comfortable no matter where a traveler goes. Weather: Hawaii usually had highs in the 80s and night time lows in the 60s or 70s throughout the year. The sun can get very strong and sunscreen protection is recommended. Rain is not too big of a hassle on the islands as the rainiest time of year is from October to May and when it does rain it does not usually do so for long periods of time. Customs: Hawaiians are famous for their hospitality. Leis are given to visitors as a symbol of friendship. Hawaiian language is easy to pronounce as each syllable is simply sounded out. Visitors will see native language all over on signs and in shops. Restrooms are usually labeled Wahine for women and Kane for men. Rubber sandals are the most popular footwear and shoes of any kind should be removed upon entering a home. Warnings: As an island in the ocean, Hawaii faces some threats of severe weather. There is a system on the island that all travelers should be familiar with when visiting. Sirens in combination with radio and television warnings alert people to tsunamis, hurricanes, windstorms and other severe weather conditions. Directions given through the warning system should be followed. These helpful tips for Hawaii travel will help a person get the most out of their Hawaiian vacation. Something for everyone. WR: We never run out of equipment and keep up to date 1995 equipment. CB: We are willing to negotiate. Rental ware almost new. MWC: We doubled the size of our fleet for 1995. All equipment is new for this year! Great selection of the "latest and greatest" SW: We have a very high performance rental fleet. With a great selection of styro/epoxy wave boards in radical wave shapes or toned down wave/slalom models. Also a full selection of "Bump an Jump" in small sizes, 8'2" - 7'11". We also have a great selection of high performance surfboards to rent. From 10' longboards to 6' shortboards. Rental Equipment Prices... 7 day board/rig and two sails (exchangeable at any time) I have decided that publishing the prices may begin a cheesy price war and get me in trouble on this small island. I will tell you that the prices vary from $240-$280 . Prices also fluctuate according to time of year. (It's more in the summer when the shops are rockin and less in the very sailable winter months) Although it is not published anywhere...Many shops have an attitude discount. Smiles count for a lot on Maui.I urge you to consider minor price differences as insignificant relative to service and equipment offered. Check out all the shops for the best value before you decide.. The smart thing is to call around well in advance. Particularly in the summer season. OK, bitch at me. Price for 30 days rental? Again, the shops vary only slightly from one another. the range is $540-$570 What is your policy on damage to rental gear? HI: We offer insurance to clients for damaged equipment. HT: Customer pays for damage unless a manufacturers defect SBM: $3 a day insurance. $20 deductible. Covers damage, not theft. WR: Customer pays for replacement or can have insurance for $5 a day . CB: Equipment responsibility &security deposit, from agreement MWC: Insurance available through travel package SW: Customer is responsible for any damage to gear. All gear we rent is damage free before it leaves the store. What is your policy on counting days sailed? HI: We offer the fairest policy. If you sail, you pay. HT: Customer only pays for the days he (she) sails but customer must turn in equipment on "off" days. SBM: On no wind days, we offer the customer an instant credit to be used for future rentals. In unusual circumstances, we will refund. WR: If equipment is out it is counted as a day sailed CB: No wind day, no charge MWC: We only charge for days actually used. SW: Customers only pay for the days they sail. A "Lay Day" is given when the gear is returned to the shop. So, customers only pays for the days they choose to sail. Honolulu ("sheltered bay"), Hawaiis capital and largest city, is where youll find the states principal port, major airport, and business and financial center. From herbal remedies in Chinatown and historical artifacts at the Bishop Museum to paying homage to our war heroes at the U.S.S. Arizona Memorial , there is much to do and see in Honolulu . For a taste of Oahu at its rugged best, head to the North Shore , a 20-mile stretch of coastline from Kaena Point to Turtle Bay. Stroll through the funky town of Haleiwa and its colorful assortment of surf shops, boutiques, art galleries and eateries. A favorite stop here is Matsumotos Shave Ice, a venerable landmark that serves the icy treat in a glorious rainbow of flavors. Each winter, the North Shore becomes the center of the surfing universe, with up to 25-foot waves challenging the sports best and bravest. Heading east, pristine Hanauma Bay remains one of the states most popular and widely photographed attractions. And just minutes away are other perennial favorites such as Sandy Beach , the Blow Hole and Sea Life Park . Weve just scratched the surface here.
