Would you really order rice AND potato salad if you had a choice? The problem is that too much of the menu is "sort of" Japanese, so it seems not quite right, though it may be very authentic Hawaiian. I came thinking I would get a good hawaiian BBQ like those I had enjoyed while a college freshman in Honolulu, but the BBQ chicken here is not even close. Ask anyone from Hawaii what they miss the most about home and the response is usually "the food". I can't tell you how happy I was to discover that L&L has come to Manhattan! My mouth waters everytime I think about it. They also have Portuguese sausage, which any local knows is a staple to a true local breakfast. I've eaten everything on the menu and I have to agree about the saimin, not the true local style. My only complaint...the one on 8th ave doesn't always play Hawaiian music. Posted by Carmela on 05/26/2005 The Perfect Lunch I'm always looking for tasty, fast, cheap food to have for lunch and when I saw this new restaurant I was a little skeptic of the claims on the flyers stuck on its window but the food looked delicious and the prices reasonable. The first time there I ordered the Luau special because it reminded me of my trip to Hawaii years earlier and wanted to experience that wonderful meal again. I was not disappointed! The food was way too much for me and I couldn't eat everything (that's the largest meal on the menu, I think) and felt very guilty because I'm trying to lose some weight. Unfortunately, the food in this place is addictive! Yes, it's that good! On my next trip I ordered a simple meal of barbecue chicken (the small size) which comes with a generous scoop of rice, a scoop of macaroni salad, and a small salad. Again, the meal was delicious. Needless to say, I have visited the restaurant again and again. You do have to wait a little while for the food but that's because it's cooked fresh. It's worth the wait. One complaint: my diet is shot! I couldn't wait to rush on over and have my first Hawaiian-style "plate lunch" in this fast-paste city. I loved the Lau Lau combo and especially the barbecue combo! I still can't believe how inexpensive they are. You really get alot of food for the bucks! I'll be going back for more of the Hawaiian-type fare but I have one bone of contention concerning my ultimate favorite local food...saimin. I ordered "your" saimin at the Fulton branch and I was very disappointed with it to say the least. The thought that I might finally have found a place that serves the kind of ramen one would get back home made me salivate at knowing that now that there's an L & L here I won't have to wait till my next visit to Hawaii to satisfy my cravings. The noodles were the type from your local Chinatown restaurant (more like spaghettinistraight and tastless) as for the soup base, it tasted like water with very little flavor. As for the "styrofoam" containers...This is the way a plate lunch should be served if it even wants to pretend its authentic. That's da kine...that's how we like it thats why...li' dat. Whether you eat in or take out it is served to go so you can take the rest...you know like if you go to a party and ''make one plate'' when you leave. I have always loved seeing how happy couples are to receive beautiful Hawaii wedding photographs and video. I know most couples who plan a Hawaii wedding would like to have an excellent chance to get a Romantic Sunset Photograph at the end of their Hawaii wedding. Sadly most locations won't have a sunset and most photographers don't know how to capture it on film correctly even if it did happen. New - There are many couples who come to Hawaii who think that the weather in Hawaii is always nice. Many advertisements offer a sunset wedding package even though the sunset is on the opposite side of the island. This is quite common on Kauai and Oahu. People just don't ask enough questions. Hawaii also gets rain all the time. I worked on Kauai for six years and have seen it rain on far too many weddings. The sunsets are almost never visible.Nearly 50% of Kauai weddings get rain. Hanalei gets so much rain you could have a very wet vacation. It can be very nice but you never know. Maui's free locations are usually very small and crowded. The last two times I was on Maui it rained in Wailea and Lahina. I have seen as many as 14 couples show up at the same beach for a wedding.Oahu is fun and has good shopping, I don't consider it a romantic place. Many couples sit in traffic on their wedding day. I know the best sunset wedding location in Hawaii - and it's free. The sunsets are the best in Hawaii all year. It's like a machine - almost every night. Up at Waikoloa, just 25 miles from Kailua Kona on The Big Island of Hawaii, the rainfall is about 6 inches a year. Very little rain and excellent hotels and activities.What a great combination . Other locations on Hawaii Island aren't nearly as nice. I know several of the very best Licensed Ministersin Hawaii and we are offering an unbeatable wedding package. No one who wants great Photo's likes rain. Here in Waikoloa you have less than 2% chance of rain and 95% chance of a great sunset. We charge less than many other photographers who don't have the equipment or experience that I do. One pro color film, one digital and one backup. This is a slow move to digital. Pro film is still nice with bright highlights - like sunset. Digital images are made availabe on your free web site. I am not substituting to save money on film, it's just that digital is so nice. Actually I am spending lots of money because of the additional cameras, flash and memory cards. Also digital creates endless hours on the computer, but I feel it's worth it now - with the new cameras available. I am always striving to be the very best I can. The prints from digital are made on the same pro photo paper at our lab - made to last 100 years. Digital has arrived and it requires photographers to be computer geeks. I have been editing digital video for years already. Another really great feature about having everything on CD is my ability to edit in some of the best images from the photo shoot when making wedding DVD's - really impressive. Recently we had some bad weather pass by Hawaii. The clouds turned really nice colors after sunset - very very low light and after sunset. With the digital camera I was ready to capture the moment. The scene lasted less than TWO MINUTES. The flexability of digital allowed me dial in the equivelent of ASA 800 film to capture another very special photograph for them - along with the pro film - it's an added benefit that doesn't take away from what I've been doing for many years. This flexability (changing film speed in 10 seconds) is really wonderful. The other benefits of having everything on CD things like cropping and simple retouching at no charge. Also I can make an unlimited number of images. This is great for Photo Journalism style combined with the traditional. Also, if we have everything on CD, magazine style wedding album pages are possible in PhotoShop CS - really cool. Digital cannot be ignored and we are already a digital studio (video).Digital Video is way more complex than Digital Stills. Mention (email me) that you read this and I'll make a free automated website with photographs from your wedding. Available in 1 day. This is nice for family to see your wedding pictures on the net. Usually I email the password once the site is ready. Normally I will leave the site up for 60 days. Should family members want prints they can also order direct. We are fully aware of the amount of time, effortand dedication it takes to produce material for evaluation and thereforeundertake to listen to everything submitted and reply with our comments. If we feel that your music has commercialpotential we will forward this to our various contacts within the Music Sceneincluding Distributors, Pluggers and Heads of Music at Radio stations etc. Before doing this we make sure that all materialsubmitted is of commercial quality. We would invite artists to have theirwork fully mastered and enhanced if necessary. We have our own in-housefully equipped 24 track recording and mastering studio offering a quickturnaround of your material which will be returned for your approval. It is a fact that most of the tracks sent to ushave not been mastered - not surprising - most home studios don't have thespecialised equipment necessary. We will accept tracks on CD, mini-disc or tapecassette for evaluation and these will not normally be returned due to pressureof work. It goes without saying that original material hasthe greatest chance of success although cover tracks have their appeal if thearrangement is unique. When we receive a positive interest from Heads ofMusic etc a commercial package must be prepared and this includes glassmastering the CD, labelling and preparing the graphics for the booklet and addingbarcodes etc. Minimum quantity is 1000 copies as many of these will bedistributed by pluggers for maximum impact.
