With three bedrooms, two Jacuzzi baths, and secluded outdoor garden shower, you can truly enjoy the vacation of your dreams; what Hawaii is supposed to be. The gentle trade winds carry the soft echoes of the ocean throughout the estate. The curved reef nearby breaks the waves in a sweeping motion creating a continuous swishing sound rather than thundering waves; like a natural white noise of the ocean. The Great Room of the living room, dining room and kitchen (45X22) are entirely surrounded by walls of glass displaying the romantic beach and cove just 70 feet away. A life size standing Buddha is in the center of the view. The couch is the size of a queen bed made entirely of Giant bamboo from Bali. Asian antiques and Hawaiian art accent this haven you’ll never want to leave. Off of the living room and separate from the rest of the house, the Master Bedroom has curved beam ceilings with a breathtaking view of the beach and reef. The waves break and slowly ripple across the reef one wave after the other, truly mesmerizing, like a moving Japanese garden. The garden view is of Mt. Mekana (famed Bali Hai) with its cascading waterfalls. What pleasure to the senses. The four poster bed made of giant bamboo is from Bali and the expansive room is dominated by a 100 year old life-size seated Buddha from Japan. Peace and tranquility abound. There’s a spacious master bath with both shower and Jacuzzi, where you sit and watch the sunset or perhaps enormous sea turtles or dolphins and whales in the distance. The second bedroom has high beamed ceilings, a wall of glass facing the ocean and a queen bamboo bed and Balinese teak furniture. The third bedroom has a pair of twin beds, curved beamed ceilings and an ocean view. The second bathroom is very large with a double sink and Jacuzzi bath. Often, however, the past itself is a key: to the future. The past is a better such key, in fact, than is the present. It is improbable that everything that can happen is happening today. Something brand new may start, of course, but something that has happened in the past is more likely to occur again, regardless of what's going on today. It is in this light that a new feature story presents the outlines of Kilauea's explosive past. Kilauea is not exploding now, but it has done so in a small way in the recent past and in a big way during the past hundreds to thousands of years. If we are to know the whole gamut of what Kilauea can do, it behooves us to examine its past as carefully as possible. Explosions can be hazardous to both people on the ground and traveling in jet airliners. The more we know about Kilauea's explosions, the better chance we have of mitigating their risk to us.
